THE ESU MA’AT SPORTS
STORYTELLING PROGRAM
Developing the next generation of storytellers behind the game.
An eight-week virtual experience connecting HBCU students with the people, skills, and career pathways shaping sports media and storytelling.
EVERY GAME HAS A STORY.
Sports create stories of identity, culture, community, perseverance, achievement, business, and human connection.
The Esu Ma’at Sports Storytelling Program, presented by the National Black Movie Association, introduces HBCU students to the growing world of sports media and gives emerging creatives practical insight into turning their interests and skills into career opportunities.
This keeps Agnes's message while removing that “sports are more than competition” construction you don't like.
THE PROGRAM.
8 WEEKS. REAL INDUSTRY INSIGHT. NEW POSSIBILITIES.

-
Capturing the defining people, environments, and moments surrounding sports.
-
Creating stories for social platforms, digital publications, and emerging media.
-
Building conversations and narratives through interviews and audio storytelling.
-
Exploring storytelling within teams, leagues, athletes, agencies, brands, and organizations.
BUILT FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
The program is designed for HBCU students interested in sports, film, journalism, media, communications, photography, content creation, and storytelling.
You don't need to know exactly where you fit yet. The program is designed to help students discover the possibilities and begin identifying a path forward.
I actually like that second sentence because it speaks to students who might think, “I like sports and making videos, but I don't know what job that translates into.”
